For a brand that’s almost 80 years old, change comes slowly. Jeep’s latest evolution also will come silently.
On Thursday, the brand unveiled its 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUV, which is the first plug-in hybrid Jeep on sale in the U.S. The boxy off-roader will be the first of many, Jeep promised. It will spend $10 billion over the next decade offering fully electric or plug-in hybrid versions of its fleet. Plug-in hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass will go on sale in Europe, although those versions won’t initially be tipped for sale in the U.S.
The 2021 Wrangler 4xe will appear Stateside early next year. Jeep is mum on its price, but it’s surely going to be more expensive than some Wranglers—perhaps not as expensive as others.
